About Lotaku
How It All Began
After the Launch of Shrotaku.co.uk back in September 2006 (24th to be precise), more and more people came to have a look at what was available to the people of Shropshire. Interest grew when a contest was launched to name the Shrotaku mascot, and entries from all over the country came in. Following the entry from Strawsnake from Shrewsbury, Kazuki had a name (later adopting the surname Deshi) and Shrotaku began to grow. With the entries came some questions from people such as "Why isn't there a site like this for where I live?" and "Can you make a website for my area?" Of course the idea for a UK based site filled Darlo's, founder of Shrotaku, head with ideas but as a one-man-band in his head was where they had to stay.
"But what if other people had local sites? Or fan clubs? Then if we came together we could create such a network" thought Darlo. And so Lotaku (Local Otaku) was born. With the official launch taking place on Thursday 1st March 2007, approximately six months after the launch of the original Shrotaku site. With help from groups such as Lanton Entertainment & TokyoPop for providing such fantastic prizes, Lotaku will continue to grow and will one day link clubs all over the world, but that's next issue!
